Michael Carruth has won Ireland's first gold medal in 36 years at the Barcelona Olympics taking the boxing welterweight title.
Speaking to RTÉ News after the fight Michael describes the Olympic Final as
The hardest fight of my life. He was a great puncher.
Despite this, according to Carruth, the plan worked out and he won gold. Carruth beat Juan Hernández Sierra from Cuba 13-10. Michael appears ringside with his father Austin.

Just hours after Carruth's win, his teammate Wayne McCullough went on to win silver in bantamweight defeated by another Cuban Joel Casamayor who took the gold.
