The tradition of currach racing continues at the annual Aran Islands currach race.
Basket weaver Vincent McCarron describes how the craft of currach making has changed over the years from the tradition of canvas and timber to the modern fibreglass boat.
It's a dying tradition, unfortunately.
Like basket making the traditional method of making a currach is on the wane and the challenge now is to try to revive it. The annual currach race shows off the traditional boats and is a festival itself with music and dance. The race is won by a team from Inisheer who are congratulated back on shore.
