A memorable day for Shannon Airport as it embraces the jumbo jet age.
It was a smooth landing for the first scheduled jumbo jet at Shannon Airport with 311 passengers on board. The Pan Am Boeing 747 landed after a transatlantic crossing from the United States.
This was the first scheduled landing of a jumbo jet at Shannon. There had been previous landings but they were for training purposes.
After landing at Shannon, the flight continued on to London.
