Veteran, vintage and classic vehicles take part in the Leinster Motor Club car rally.

If you were on the road between Dublin and Ashford County Wicklow today you might have experienced either delight or frustration at the sight of so many vintage cars travelling at what was long ago considered to be top speed.

The Leinster Motor Club, Ireland's oldest car club, held its thirty-first veteran and vintage car rally today. Over seventy automobiles dating from 1901 to 1960 lined up at the Simmonscourt Gate in Dublin’s RDS (Royal Dublin Society).

Whatever difficulties you might have starting up nowadays, they were very slight compared to the efforts not long ago.

Thankfully the weather held, as cars from days gone by were not constructed with the same protection from the elements for their drivers and passengers as they are today.

Some managed to keep to a decent speed but for many others, given that they had over sixty miles ahead of them to travel, took things at a more relaxed pace.
