A troupe of mummers provide entertainment in Gweedore, County Donegal.

Part of Irish tradition for centuries, Mummers are troupes of amateur actors who perform short plays within their community or neighbouring communities during the twelve days of Christmas.

The play involves three characters including an Irish soldier, Prince George and a doctor and always contains a combat scene, followed by the death and revival of Prince George. The death represents winter and the revival symbolises spring.

Mummers in Gweedore, County Donegal perform to a large crowd. A duel follows the accusation

Are you the thief who stole my cow last night? Take out your sword and fight.

The mummers end their performance with the folk song 'Irish Soldier Laddie' about the events of the Wexford Rebellion in 1798.

Will ye march with O'Neill to an Irish battle field? For tonight we gonna free old Wexford town.
