An amateur astronomer from Clontarf has discovered a new star in the Vulpecula constellation.

Using high-powered binoculars, Eamonn Ansboro was scanning a region in Vulpecula when he noticed a configuration of stars in which one of the stars was misplaced. Following some investigation using star charts Eamonn noticed that one of the stars was missing. He then contacted members of the Irish Astronomical Society and Dunsink Observatory who verified his discovery of a new star.

Communication was then made throughout the world via telegram that a new star had been discovered.

The star is what we classify as a Red Giant - an old age star.

Eamonn Ansbro is a recognised expert in the field of variable stars.
