On 25 August 1969 the first plane landed at Farranfore Airport, Co. Kerry.
Hundreds of onlookers turned out and were joined by a group of dignitaries and Minister for Transport and Power, Brian Lenihan for the official opening ceremony at Farranfore.
For the first ten years, the airport was mainly used for light aircraft and the occasional cargo flight. It wasn't until 1979 that the first scheduled flights came into operation.
