On 26 May 1969 'Portrait of a Poet' looked at the work of William Butler Yeats. The programme was filmed in Dublin and Sligo and made use of archive photographs alongside the works of the poet.

Riversdale in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin was the home of W.B. Yeats for the final ten years of his life, and is the setting for the opening scenes in this piece from the programme. This extract includes a recital of the poem 'Under Ben Bulben'.

Scenes from Sligo show the grave of W.B. Yeats and his epitaph which reads:

Cast a cold Eye
On Life, on Death.
Horseman, pass by!
