Planning permission is granted for a multi-million pound shopping and office complex at Merchant's Quay in Cork city centre.

Merchant’s Quay in the heart of Cork City is the location for a £40 million pound shopping and office complex. Two locally based property developers are involved in the development of the four acre site, Power Securities and Clare Investments, a group backed by the Roches Stores Company.

Part of the site clearance has already and specific property acquisitions have already been completed.

It is believed some senior planning offers attached to Cork Corporation would have preferred a phased project because of its possible effect on existing businesses in other areas of the city.

The developers were not prepared to agree to this and as a result the entire plan has been given the green light.
