Meridian Theatre Company from Cork bring their stage adaptation of the Russian short story 'The Overcoat' to The Project.

The Meridian Theatre Company is finishing up a successful run of Gogol’s comic masterpiece 'The Overcoat’ at The Project in Dublin. The production, adapted by Johnny Hanrahan, will move on to Limerick’s Belltable Arts Centre next week.

‘The Overcoat’ is a short story written by Ukrainian author Nikolai Gogol in 1842. It has been translated into many languages and adapted many times for stage and screen. It tells the story of Akaky Akakievich Bashmackin, an impoverished government clerk in the Russian capital of St Petersburgh and his search for a new overcoat. The overcoat is symbolic of security, status and protection.

This adaptation stars Mal Whyte, Kieran Ahern, Jim Burton, Jack Healy and Garvan McGrath with direction and music by John Browne.
