On a sunny afternoon in Wexford a new king of the Irish Mummers is crowned.
In an open air ceremony in the townland of St Iberius situated near Lady's Island in south County Wexford Nicholas Parle of Ballycogley is crowned King of the Irish Mummers by the captain of the Carne Mummers Leo Carty.
Nicholas Parle has been associated with mumming for over fifty years and is a recognised authority on Irish dancing in the locality. In February he and his fellow Carne Mummers represented Ireland at the International Folk Dancing Exhibition in London, held in the Royal Albert Hall.
Music for the opening parade was performed by Campile Pipers Band, and the Mummers perform their dance to traditional music on accordion.
