The first International Festival of Mime takes place at the Project Theatre, Dublin.
After a fire at the Project Theatre in November 1980 the theatre reopened to the public on April 9 with Ireland's first international mime festival, 'Beyond Words'.
In this clip from the festival mime students perform a scene at the Project titled 'A Delicate Balance'.
Mime artists at the festival included a troupe of Irish artistes Conal Kearney, Vincent O'Neill and Jonathan Lambert studying with Marcel Marceau in Paris at the École de Mimodrame.
This performance appeared as part of an 'Ireland's Eye' report broadcast on 23 April 1981.
