A new generation of pop stars record the Band Aid single 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'

A reworked version of the 1984 hit 'Do They Know It's Christmas' was recorded in London just two days ago.

Twenty years on from the original release, people still know the words to the Band Aid single 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' The new version features a new generation of artists including  Chris Martin of Coldplay, Robbie Williams, Busted, The Darkness, and Joss Stone.

Critics describe it as more melancholic and more soulful than the original.

RTÉ DJ Larry Gogan believes the new version is as good as the original. After getting a first airing on the radio today, the reaction has been generally positive.

Anne O'Mahony from charity Concern believes that anything that raises awareness is a good thing. Proceeds from the recording will go to the Darfur region of western Sudan. This new version of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' is being tipped to be the Christmas number one.
