While the rate of recruitment to An Garda Síochána is in decline new members of the force will continue to be taken on.
The Minister for Justice Nuala Fennell made the commitment at a Garda passing out parade in Templemore. With the strength of An Garda Síochána now standing at 11,400, the Minister for Justice said it was important to make sure Garda resources were being used to the optimum.
After inspecting the new recruits, Minister Fennell spoke about her plans for the force.
To examine resources that are available at the present time in the context of how they can be better used.
This requires an examination of the best use of manpower, money and equipment.
Amongst the new recruits at the ceremony was the son of the Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral Rev Victor Griffin and his wife Daphne Griffin, as well as the nephew of Monsignor Horan Parish Priest of Knock.
