Jason McAteer on switching from graphic design to professional football and choosing to play for the Republic of Ireland.

Following a good season with Bolton Wanderers, Jason McAteer reflects on stepping up to play international football and why he chose to play for the Republic of Ireland.

The 22 year old could have played for any one of four countries but he opted for the Republic of Ireland.

The fact that the Republic of Ireland had older experienced players was an attraction. On his international debut against Russia he admits to nerves and never feeling as much pressure but quickly got into his stride. Playing at international level is a big change from club football. 

It's just like a dream come true.
