In November 1947, the first recordings were made by the Radio Éireann Mobile Recording Unit (MRU).
Some of the first recordings using the Mobile Recording Unit were not in Irish or English but in Spanish. Pádraig Ó Raghallaigh introduces recordings from November 1947 of Spanish sailors singing on Valentia Island and Péig Sayers describing in Irish the arrival of the recording unit at her home.
'Fifty Years of Irish Radio' was broadcast on 4 January 1976. The presenter is Pádraig Ó Raghallaigh
