In 1976 Bishop of Kerry Dr Eamonn Casey is appointed as new Bishop of Galway.
Eamonn Casey speaks to RTÉ News about his new appointment.
I came as an outsider to Kerry. I come likewise to Galway and I'm quite confident that the Galway priests and people will give me the same support and welcome as the representative of the Holy Father as they gave me in Kerry.
Bishop Casey has been Bishop of Kerry since 1969. He succeeds Bishop Michael Brown who is retiring and will take up the appointment in September or October 1976. In the meantime, he continues his duties as Bishop of Kerry. Bishop Casey is also a member of the Bishops' Commission on Emigration and Chairman of Trocaire, the Catholic Church's agency for world development.
