The Electricity Supply Board announces plans to build a nuclear power plant at Carnsore Point in Wexford.

Seán Coakley of the ESB Design and Production Development Department believes Ireland's first nuclear power plant will be relatively small. There will be employment created during construction and on the operational side of the plant once it opens.

The ESB say Carnsore Point was chosen as the site for the plant because it fits a number of criteria for the country's fist nuclear power station. Seán Coakley believes it is a little early to be talking about the possibility of further nuclear plants in Ireland.
