RTÉ News moves to electronic news gathering switching from using film cameras for television to using video.
By 1985, RTÉ had almost completed replacing the film cameras used by news crews with video cameras. Film had been the main media for news coverage since RTÉ began broadcasting in 1961. ENG would allow more flexibility in reporting and stories could be brought to air as they happened.
Electronic News Gathering equipment or ENG, new technology used by RTÉ had a dramatic baptism in Cork.
