Young people in Tipperary reenact the seizure of Cahir Castle by Oliver Cromwell in 1650.
A dramatic reconstruction is played out by local young people of the taking of the castle in Cahir by Oliver Cromwell. Cahir Castle dates back to the 15th century. Since 1964 the castle has been looked after by the Office of Public Works whoe have carried out extensive restoration works.
At the start of its history it was thought to be impregnable.

While the castle was thought to be impregnable, in 1599 the Earl of Essex laid siege and following three bloody days of battle, got into the castle. In 1650, the castle was taken by Oliver Cromwell. The Butler family surrendered the castle without a fight in order to protect the castle from being destroyed.
