A new telephone exchange at Adelaide Road will help to expand the telephone network in Dublin.
Minister for Post and Telegraphs Albert Reynolds opens a new trunk telephone exchange at Adelaide Road in Dublin.
The 4,000 line exchange is the biggest of its kind and was installed in a joint venture by Swedish telephone specialist LM Ericsson and Telectron. The new facility will provide much needed additional capacity on the Dublin telephone network.
Also attending the launch were Liam Canning, engineer in charge of the exchange, Declan Field, district engineer, Mark Killalea, Minister of State at the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, and Maeve Clarke, marketing executive at Telectron.
Albert Reynolds says that the new exchange will help to satisfy the demand for telephone lines by providing a larger network. He pointed out that the exchange is just one part of an overall programme to increase the provision of telephone lines and improve the quality of the service.
