Druid Theatre launches the ambitious 'DruidSynge' celebrating the work of John Millington Synge.

'DruidSynge' which will see the Galway company Druid Theatre produce all six of John Millington Synge's plays, beginning with the great Irish classic and theatrical challenge 'The Playboy of the Western World'.

Artistic director of the Druid Garry Hynes considers this the most ambitious project the company has undertaken to date.

We will be giving audiences an opportunity to see all the plays together over a two to three day period.

Under Garry Hynes’ direction rehearsals of ‘The Playboy of the Western World’ get underway. Cork actor Cillian Murphy plays the central role of Christy Mahon and the part of Pegeen Mike is taken by Londoner Anne-Marie Duff.

Anne-Marie Duff is both excited and nervous about playing Pegeen Mike.

The most famous female Irish part.

For Cillian Murphy 'The Playboy of the Western World' is,

Just a fantastic piece of writing, a fantastic piece of theatre.

The leads will perform alongside actors Eamon Morrissey, Frank O'Sullivan, Gary Lydon and Aisling O'Sullivan.
