In Cork dancers train and rehearse in preparation to bring new and classic ballets to the stage.
The studio of the Irish Theatre Ballet is situated across from the walls of the old Cork Opera House. Young Irish dancers train and rehearse at the studio every day to recreate old classics and to devise new ballets.
The streets of Cork have grown accustomed to the unmistakable feet of ballet dancers.
In the tiny studio, fitted with exercise bar and mirror, artistic director Joan Moriarty teaches and trains aspiring and accomplished dancers. Beginning at a young age, many of the dancers hope one day to become members of the Irish Theatre Ballet.


The intense daily training of a dancer requires exercising every muscle from head to toe.
A dancer needs not only technically but the strength and stamina of a skillfully trained athlete.
Ballet Master Geoffrey Davidson takes the class through a range of exercises. The next generation of budding ballerinas take to the floor dressed in leotards and tights. While ballet dancers rehearse the pas de trois for a performance of Cinderella to the music of Sergei Prokofiev with choreography by Geoffrey Davidson.
