Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon arrive at Shannon Airport for a two week private holiday in Ireland.
Princess Margaret and her husband Lord Snowdon travel from London Airport to Shannon Airport on one of the regular Aer Lingus International Airline Viscounts. They are welcomed at the airport by Lord de Vesci of Abbeyleix and his wife Lady Susan de Vesci. Lady de Vesci is Lord Snowdon's sister.
They royal couple make their way through press photographers to a car on the tarmac. They are driven by Lord de Vesci directly to Abbeyleix House, the de Vesci home in County Laois.
The de Vesci family have been living here for over 300 years and the present house was built in the middle of the 18th century.
A large crowed gathered at the gates of Abbeyleix House to welcome the Princess and her husband.
For the second week of their holiday Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon will stay at Birr Castle, the home of Lord Snowdon's mother and stepfather the Earl and Countess of Rosse.
Special security measures for the royal holiday are being undertaken by An Garda Síochána and it is anticipated that the British press will be covering the visit in a big way.
