The majority of graduates are finding employment after university.

A study on the patterns of graduate employment published by the Association of Irish University Careers and Appointments Services looked at those who graduated from university in 1976. The findings may come as a surprise to many who had painted a gloomy picture of the jobs market.

Almost ninety per cent of TCD (Trinity College Dublin) graduates are employed or have chosen to study further. Only around eleven per cent of the Irish graduates went overseas to find work.

Careers and Appointments Officer at TCD Dermot Montgomery says these figures are broadly the same for graduates in other universities across the country. He encourages school leavers to think realistically about studying at third level and keep an open mind in what direction they may head after they graduate,

They must stay flexible whenever they're looking for careers.
