Davis, Derek
Derek Davis (1948 - 2015) was an Irish journalist and broadcaster.
Born in Bangor County Down, Derek Davis was a familiar face and voice on RTÉ.
Though he started his career with the American network ABC and BBC Northern Ireland, he worked initially on RTÉ Television as a television news reporter and newsreader.
He co-hosted with Thelma Mansfield RTÉ 1's afternoon programme 'Live at 3' (1986-1997), presented 'Davis at Large' and a summer current affairs series 'Davis'.
He had a passion for boats and Irish waterways and from 1990 until 2001 Derek Davis presented a marine features programme 'Out of the Blue' on RTÉ One Television.
He won 'Celebrity Bainisteoir' on RTÉ Television, and presented a variety of RTÉ Radio programmes including a Radio 1 quiz show called 'A Question of Food' and he filled in various popular slots during holidays including the mid-morning slot occupied by Pat Kenny and the radio phone in show 'Liveline'.
Davis presented the Rose of Tralee twice in 1995 and 1996 and won two Jacob's Awards for his television work.
