A major development scheme is underway in the popular seaside resort of Ballybunion in County Kerry.

Ballybunion, a coastal town and seaside resort in County Kerry is situated 15 km from the town of Listowel. It has been a popular holiday resort since the early 1800s.

In the second stage of a major Bord Fáilte development plan for Ballybunion, the South Beach and Castle Green ares are being enhanced. In this development phase, costing in the region of £40,000, Castle Green is being landscaped and the ruins of Ballybunion Castle are being restored and made safe.

The plans for the area include a bandstand and the installation of special seating. Continuous terracing of the grassy banks in the area is to be carried out. The promenade on the beach will be extended by the use of stonework. In addition, a proper beach guards' hut will be built, shelters erected and dressing rooms and shower facilities provided.

Although this work is being carried out during the summer season, it is not deterring children from making sandcastles on the beach.
