Former classmates and friends of actress Saoirse Ronan react to her Oscar nomination.
Saoirse Ronan, the 13 year old schoolgirl from County Carlow is the name on everyone's lips following her Oscar nomination for best supporting actress for her role in ‘Atonement’.
Pupils attending Saoirse’s former school Ardattin National School in Carlow are hard at work making good luck cards for possibly their most famous former classmate.
Saoirse attended the school for nine years, leaving in June 2007 when he had just turned 13. Because fourth, fifth and sixth classes share a room most of the remaining pupils know Saoirse very well.
Hannah Byrne has a photograph of herself with Saoirse and their friend Clare Kealy on their confirmation day. Many of the other pupils also have photographs of them with Saoirse and share their memories of her. Her friend Christopher Cassidy, who has also acted with Saoirse, thinks her Oscar nomination is,
Fabulous.
Saoirse’s role as role as the 13 year old Briony Tallis in ‘Atonement’ has already been nominated for awards by the Irish Film and Television Academy, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and the Golden Globes.
Saoirse has recorded a special message for her friends and family in Ireland.
