A school in Fermoy County Cork uses an experimental approach to teaching music.
Saint Coleman's College founded in 1858 in Fermoy is described as,
A college that has had its share of original thinkers
Father John Terry is the teacher behind the experiment. The approach involves the use of gesture. While this approach is designed to be used with six and seven year olds, Fr John is using it with twelve and thirteen year olds with great results.
This method has its origins in America, and was designed by Mrs Justine Ward, and then spread to Europe. Fr John explains with the Ward Approach the focus is on the "non-singers".
