Freezing weather with record low temperatures continue to cause problems in the lead up to Christmas with traffic chaos, and the closure of schools and airports. The treacherous conditions are causing problems nationwide.

While the landscape may be picture perfect for the time of year, conditions are treacherous. Eileen Magnier reports on the conditions in north west of Ireland, where like elsewhere in the country, the pace of life has had to slow down. Sligo recorded one of the lowest temperatures overnight at a record -16 degrees. Dangerous roads have also meant that salt supplies are now at a critical level.
