Tallaght is about to have a new shopping centre and members of local community groups are getting a preview tour.
When the Square Shopping Centre opens in Tallaght opens it will be the biggest in the country with 700,000 square feet of retail space, plus a 12 screen cinema.
The Lord Mayor of Tallaght Kay Brady welcomes the new centre.
To me and I’m sure to a lot of people in Tallaght it’ll make all the difference in the world. It’s just going to be about everything here, I’m particularly happy with the cinema situation.
Development Director Edward Sweeney spoke about how the new centre will not be detrimental to established shopping areas.
We believe that the two should complement each other. Everybody expects people from Dublin centre to come out here because it’s so nice. But we still expect some people who really like to go to Grafton Street and Henry Street, particularly young people who enjoy that, to continue doing that.
The Square Shopping Centre was officially opened on 23 October 1990 by the Taoiseach, Charles Haughey.
