How was the news put together in the RTÉ newsroom in the days before the internet and computerised graphics? In 1985, 'Slants' reporter Ciana Campbell took a look at the work behind the scenes in the preparation of the Nine O'Clock News. Graphics staff cut and paste illustrations for news items. Reporter Charlie Bird sets out for the High Court but is then sent to Crumlin Shopping Centre in search of Dunnes Stores strikers against apartheid.

'Slants' was a weekly television magazine programme made by the media about the media. This edition was broadcast on 13 October 1985.
