For the first time in the history of the RDS Spring Show it has opened on a Sunday in an effort to attract greater numbers.

Alan McCullough reports from the RDS Spring Show which for the first time started on a Sunday.

One of the highlights on the opening day was an international tug-of-war competition.

Tony Fitzgerald, organiser of the event at the RDS, spoke about the success of the Sunday opening with attendance numbers up on previous years.

Sunday now is a very big day for family entertainment, for a day out for mam and dad and the children, and we feel that we should be in the business of providing them with the entertainment that they want.

The major theme for the indoor exhibition was Irish food, featuring the best of home produce. The show also had agricultural and trade exhibits, and is described by Alan McCullough as

the week when city and country come together

The show ran from Sunday to Thursday in the hope of drawing bigger crowds to the event. In previous years the Spring Show ran from Tuesday to Saturday.
