Ireland's first natural gas supply goes into production at Kinsale.

Although the find of natural gas off the coast of Kinsale is small by international standards the hope is that Ireland will be getting fifteen per cent of its national energy from natural gas.

Bord Gáis buys the gas piped from the field off the Kinsale Head from the American company Marathon.

Nevin Dowling Chief Executive of Bord Gáis believes there is great potential for natural gas particularly for industry in the Cork region.

We do feel that this gas could be used for industrial use. We definitely think that particularly in the Cork area that it could have regional development.
