Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave opens the Dún Laoghaire Summer Festival at the Royal Marine Hotel.

Outgoing Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave gets the Dún Laoghaire Summer Festival started.

A small select group greeted the Taoiseach on his arrival at the Royal Marine Hotel Garden Theatre.

Among those attending the launch of the festival were members of Dún Laoghaire Corporation, constituents, and three foreign ambassadors to Ireland. Liam Cosgrave was joined by his wife Vera and daughter Mary.

After a performance from the Army Band, Liam Cosgrave officially opened the Dún Laoghaire Festival of Summer with an address where he mentioned his close personal relationship with the are. Liam Cosgrave did not comment on the recent disastrous election for the Fine Gael party.

The election was won by Fianna Fáil with Jack Lynch due to become Taoiseach on 5 July 1977. Instead, he spoke about how events like the Dún Laoghaire Festival contributed to the growth in tourism.
