Three families from the Traveller community are living at a new site in Newbridge provided by Kildare County Council.
Kildare County Council developed the site complete a hard surface, toilets, washbasins, grates for the family fires and a grazing area for horses.
The housing plan is the latest development in the Settlement Scheme.
Every week, the families are given vouchers to the value of £4 to help them buy food and from today the Kildare County Council is also providing free milk.
The Newbridge Itinerant Settlement Committee, a group of social workers who campaigned for the settlement, have now been told by the council that houses will be provided for three families wishing to give up the nomadic life and settle down.
Ten year old Brigid McDonagh and nineteen year old Winnie McDonagh tell RTÉ News about who living on the site. Brigid hopes to continue to attend school and Winnie wants to get a job nearby and settle in a house.
