Burns, Mike

Mike Burns (1937-2021) broadcaster, journalist, author and media consultant. Born in Leicester, he was a founder-member of the Premier Aces Showband.

He then became a reporter with the Sunday Independent and Sunday Review. He joined RTÉ in 1963 as a writer For the RTV Guide (now RTÉ Guide). He moved on to news features, reporting on the escalating violence in Northern Ireland for 'This Week'. He won a Jacobs award in 1969.

In 1971 he co-authored the Burns-Liston report, which was highly critical of RTÉ News. He moved to London when he became London editor and was PR for the British and Irish Inter-Parliamentary body between 1990 and 2009. He was awarded an MBE for services to UK-Irish relations in 2003.
