U2 will give two shows at Slane Castle as part of the Elevation Tour 20 years after the band first played there.

U2 have a long connection with Slane Castle having played at the first ever concert in 1981 supporting headline act Thin Lizzy. They also recorded part of their fourth album 'The Unforgettable Fire' at the castle.

80,000 tickets for the bands first Irish concert in three years sold out in just 45 minutes.

Commenting on the rapid ticket sales one fan said,

They are the biggest band in the world and it’s unfortunate that there is only one concert due to planning laws.

However, shortly after the first concert sold out, a second gig at Slane got the go ahead.

Justin Green of MCD Promotions describes the unique relationship U2 have with their fans and how the band are constantly reinventing themselves.

U2 have this great way of creating and appealing to every single person.

The first concert takes place on 25 August with the second on 1 September.
