The Censorship of Publications Board removes a ban on 'Playboy' magazine but are the Irish public ready for it?

Banned for 36 years, the first legal Irish edition of 'Playboy' magazine will be on the shelves of Irish newsagents from December 1995.

For one man interviewed on Crown Alley in Dublin's Temple Bar, the lifting of the ban on 'Playboy' is appropriate,

You’re not seeing anything you don’t see in the bathroom.

A young man is pragmatic about the controversial magazine being freely available throughout the county.

If someone wants to buy it, they’ll buy it, if they don’t want to buy it they will not buy it.

However, an elderly man will not be buying 'Playboy' when it hits Irish shelves,

I’ve gone beyond the age of looking at them now.

Another agrees,

I don’t need to read 'Playboy' I’ve got a very attractive wife.

One man interviewed is reluctant to comment on his wife’s opinion of him reading 'Playboy', but the woman with him interjects,

She’d probably look at it too.

However, some women interviewed are less supportive of the magazine and there is little enthusiasm to bare all for 'Playboy'. While an American woman would pose naked for 'Playboy', fashion designer John Rocha does not think his figure is good enough.
