Paddy Reilly pays tribute to British singer and songwriter Ewan McColl.

In 1984, Irish folk singer and guitarist Paddy Reilly had a monster hit in the charts for 72 weeks with the song 'The Fields of Athenry'. However, he is not on the Late Late Show to perform this much heard song but rather to pay tribute to another songwriter.

Let’s hear it for Paddy Reilly.

Paddy Reilly is now celebrating 25 years in the music business and has a new album ‘Paddy Reilly ‎– Sings 'The Songs of Ewan McColl’. The album features the songs of the British folk singer. Paddy Reilly accompanied by Des Moore on guitar performs the track ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’. The song has been an international hit for singer Roberta Flack in 1972.

The album was recorded and released as a tribute to Ewan McColl who died in October 1989.

This episode of The Late Late Show was broadcast on 5 October 1990. The presenter is Gay Byrne.
