Nano Nagle a Presentation Sister nun is voted Ireland's greatest woman.

The eighteenth century nun Nano Nagle has been voted Ireland's greatest woman by listeners to the Marian Finucane Show on RTÉ Radio 1.

The results of the vote by 4,600 listeners were announced today with former President of Ireland Mary Robinson coming in second place with twenty one per cent of the vote. Swimmer Michelle Smith controversially won twenty per cent of the vote.

Nano Nagle was founder of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the 'Presentation Sisters’ and was considered to be a pioneer of Catholic education in Ireland.

Despite being voted Ireland’s Greatest Woman, students and parents at Nano Nagle school in Dublin knew very little about the woman. Teachers are now setting out to teach their pupils about the Cork born nun who is famed with founding schools for under privileged children.
