Ardal O'Hanlon, one third of the comedy act Mr Trellis, performs at the Comedy Cellar above the International Bar in Dublin.

In 1988 three Dublin City University students Barry Murphy, Kevin Gildea and Ardal O’Hanlon formed the experimental comedy act Mr Trellis and, with the help of Dermot Carmody and Anne Gildea, they established the Comedy Cellar upstairs in the International Bar on Dublin's Wicklow Street.

At a packed Comedy Cellar one third of Mr Trellis, Ardal O'Hanlon, delves into the realm of the surreal with a routine that begins,

I was in the pub the other night.

He goes on to recall his childhood and how his father would punish him and his brothers and weaves this tale into a tale featuring an accountant and some men boasting about how much they can drink.

‘Nighthawks’ was a programme that was set in a bar/cafe where the presenter Shay Healy was also the proprietor. The content was a mixture of comedy sketches, interviews, music performances and music videos.

‘Nighthawks’ was broadcast between 1988 and 1992 and went out three nights a week.
