A new venue for Irish music and theatre opens in Monkstown Dublin.

Labhrás Ó Murchú of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ) speaks to RTÉ News in both English and Irish about the need for a theatre venue to host traditional Irish music concerts in the Dublin area.

He emphasises that the new venue is not just for the use of CCÉ and traditional Irish music. Comhaltas is anxious to attract other national bodies who are working to promote Irish culture.

We feel it will be much more possible for us to much more sophisticated productions and on a more regular time scale.

Labhrás Ó Murchú also hopes that the venue will stage Irish language theatre.

The official opening of the theatre by was performed by Fine Gael Minister for Health Barry Desmond TD.
