The music of Charles Villiers Stanford features in a service for Saint Cecilia's Day.
The ecumenical service for Saint Cecilia's Day was hosted by the Royal School of Church Music Ireland and featured performances from the upper voice choirs of St Bartholomew's Church, Clyde Road and St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin. This extract features the Hymn Psalm 150 (Stanford Chant) composed by Charles Villiers Stanford.
The service was led by Mark Bowyer. Blánaid Murphy of St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin was the director of music and the piano was by Tristan Russcher of St Bartholomew's Church, Dublin.
Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924) was an Irish composer, music teacher and conductor. He received his music education at Cambridge, Leipzig and Berlin. A composer of a number of concert works and operas Charles Villiers Stanford is probably best remembered for his choral works for church performance.
