The film version story of an impoverished upbringing in post-war Limerick.
The premiere of the film 'Angela's Ashes' based on the best-selling book by Frank McCourt, took place simultaneously in Dublin and in McCourt's hometown of Limerick. The film recalls the author's impoverished upbringing in post war Limerick after his family had returned from the United States.
Director Alan Parker says he has stuck closely to the book in creating the film.
I have been very faithful and truthful to the book I think it is very accurate.
Emily Watson who play's McCourt's mother describes the strength of the woman. The part of Frank McCourt is played by three young actors including Joe Breen, Ciaran Owens and Michael Legge. Joe Breen who plays the young Frank McCourt is not sure if a film career is for him.
