In 1993 RTÉ News visited Our Lady's Bower Girls Secondary School in Athlone on the day of the results.

For many students the leaving cert boils down to adding up points, which won't be a problem for Joanne Flynn who got seven As and is assured a place studying law in Trinity College. Others calculate their points in the hope they have earned enough to get that college place.

While much of the attention is on the high achievers, School Principal Sister Denise points out that students who do not achieve high grades can also get on well in life.
