Leo Clancy a fitter with Gallagher cigarette manufacturer by day is an artist in his spare time.

Leo Clancy is preparing for his first exhibition which will be at the Gallaghers premises on the Greenhills Road in Tallaght, before moving to the Quinn Gallery in South Richmond Street.

A father of two from Rathcoole Leo Clancy started drawing and painting in earnest at the age of seventeen, when he enrolled as a part time student in the National College of Art.

Combining full time work with art classes he studied drawing under Maurice McGonagle and portrait painting under the late George Collie.

I learned a tremendous amount about portrait painting from him.

A dedicated artist, evenings are spent painting once the paid working day is over. Leo Clancy also works in sculpture, pastels and pen and ink.

He is reaping some rewards from all his hard work. Some of his paintings now have a price tag of three hundred pounds. While Leo Clancy hopes to be a full time artist one day, he is not giving up the day job just yet,

You have to eat and you have to live, so I have to continue working for the time being.
