Martin McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri continued on from its Golden Globes success with three wins at the Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California on Thursday night.
The black comedy-drama from the London-Irish filmmaker, which opens in Irish cinemas today, won the awards for Best Actress (Frances McDormand), Best Supporting Actor (Sam Rockwell) and Best Acting Ensemble. Lady Bird star Saoirse Ronan had been nominated for Best Actress.

At the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri won four awards, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay for McDonagh.
At the Critics' Choice Awards, The Shape of Water was named Best Picture and also won Best Director (Guillermo del Toro), Best Score (Alexandre Desplat) and Best Production Design.

In the other acting categories, Golden Globe winner Gary Oldman won another Best Actor award for his performance in Darkest Hour, with his fellow Globe winner, Allison Janney, winning her second Best Supporting Actress award in a week for her role in I, Tonya.
Saoirse Ronan lost out on Best Comedy Actress to Janney's I, Tonya co-star Margot Robbie, with James Franco winning Best Comedy Actor for The Disaster Artist and Brooklynn Prince named Best Young Actor/Actress for The Florida Project.

As at the Golden Globes, Big Little Lies was the big television success, winning again in the same four categories, including Best Limited Series.
The drama's star, Nicole Kidman, was named Best Actress in a Movie Made for TV or Limited Series, with co-stars Alexander Skarsgård and Laura Dern winning Best Supporting Actor and Actress respectively.

Mirroring the Golden Globes, The Handmaid's Tale won Best Drama Series and Best Actress for Elisabeth Moss, with Sterling K Brown named Best Actor for This Is Us.
