German architect Christoph Ingenhoven chosen to design the Gateway Project on the University College Dublin campus.
International award winning architect Christoph Ingenhoven has been chosen to design a multi million euro development which will transform the entrance to University College Dublin (UCD) at Belfield.
UCD students are ambivalent about the college's amalgamation of concrete architecture,
I’d describe it as sort of communist chic it’s never really been in fashion.
Another student feels the old buildings are drab and depressing,
The library looks like a military bunker in my opinion.
While another student considers the architecture,
Not very inspiring, utilitarian is probably the word.
It is hoped Christoph Ingenhoven’s vision for developing the Belfield campus will change this perception of UCD’s architecture.
The Gateway Project will be built on a 13 hectare site on the N11 frontage of UCD's Belfield campus. It is more than just a university building. It will include new student, community and cultural buildings.
It is really, really a very complex situation.
Christoph Ingenhoven is known for his innovative high-tech approach to sustainable building design and the UCD proposal includes many innovative ideas in this regard. UCD President Dr Hugh Brady is impressed with how the design takes inspiration from Belfield’s landscape and blends it with the need to create a community and cultural space, providing the opportunity
To create a new generation of campus.
The Gateway Project design is subject to planning permission but could be operational by 2012.
