Cork is getting ready for the visit of Queen Elizabeth to the city.

Cork City Council workers are in the process of sprucing up the city to ensure that it looks its best in time for Queen Elizabeth's visit on 20 May.

Director of Corporate Affairs Valerie O’Sullivan says this is work undertaken every year that has simply been pushed to an earlier date on the calendar.

During the two hour visit Cork city centre will close, as will the English Market, where Queen Elizabeth will meet with traders.

Security checks are underway, and British Ambassador to Ireland Julian King told the media that everything is going according to plan,

We have every confidence in the arrangements
